Buying help - iPhone vs Nothing?

At the moment I’m using an iPhone 12, but unfortunately it is getting to the end of its life span. So before I buy a new iPhone I wouldn’t mind seeing what nothing has over iPhone.

My questions are:

What iPhone model would a nothing phone be the closest to (let’s say the nothing phone 1 is the same as a iPhone 10 for example)

Is it better to go CMF over the original model?(Price to specs: CMF pro 2 is a little worse than the nothing phone a3 but $100 cheeper for example)

Any major draw backs with a nothing phone? (The device dies if 15 apps are open at the same time for example)

Best bang for my buck over all?

TomLoek better go with Nothing branded phones for an iphone replacement. CMF is on the affordable side, more of a competition to xiaomi realme etc. I will recommend either a Nothing 3a pro or may be wait for p3

TomLoek Please consider features that you cannot live without that are iPhone specific: Airdrop, iMessage. If you often take videos and take photos on instagram or recording videos through tiktok app, iPhone is ALWAYS the best choice. If you have a Macbook, it will be much better to go for an iPhone.

If all the things I mentioned above do not matter to you, then buy whatever Nothing phone you can afford. Because it all boils down to software experience when using a phone, and it is pretty much the same between CMF and Nothing, which is a good thing.

I actually use an iPhone 13 and decided to take a cautious look at what Nothing has to offer. So I bought a CMF Phone 1 and to be honest I don’t miss anything about the iPhone except the photo and gallery management. My plan is to watch conventional things like updates, bug fixes and support before investing in a flagship. Got the CMF for 180 Euros. However, if you need NFC or have higher demands on the camera, I would rather go for the CMF Phone 2. In fact, even these “budget devices” are ahead of an iPhone of this age in a number of ways.

If you want to go the whole hog, wait for the Nothing Phone 3.

No, an iPhone isn’t always the best choice if you can afford it. Android has enough advantages. I also have an iPhone at home and currently use a NP-N500 as my primary device. I love Nothing OS. It’s clean, uncluttered, and there are NO pre-installed apps like X or Facebook. I really appreciate that about Nothing. The community is very valuable and gives a lot of feedback to Nothing. My focus is on the Phone 3, I hope it will be a flagship and can keep up with the big ones. The Nothing 3a/ 3a Pro is very, very good and you can’t go wrong with it.

TomLoek It really depends on what your preferences are. Nothing is only just establishing itself as a brand. It’s certainly not all tutti frutti. I’ve been using Apple since 2007 and love the way the ecosystem meshes. Nothing is still a long way from that. However, iPhones have hardly developed significantly in recent years, apart from the price increases. I also think that Android has come a long way in the meantime. AI integration, for example, should be emphasized… If you are interested in that. I’m sure you’ve also heard the crap about Apple Intelligence…

Some highly repetitive topics here in the forum are probably overheating and camera level. Every Tech-Youtuber will give you a good comparison of the latter. Overheating is more likely to be a problem in India or warmer regions, as far as I know.

I haven’t had any problems with my CMF so far and I’m actually really happy with it. But experiences vary. Unfortunately, I can’t say which Android alternatives are better for the money. But the small Google Pixel 9 probably performs well?

I also like the Nothing OS. That and my curiosity led me here to observe the development.

Ask 10 people and you will get 10 different answers.

supernova I also come from the iPhone and still own the 12 PM. I find the company, the devices and the OS very interesting and impressive so far with a few exceptions. I’m really excited about the Phone 3. The possibilities Nothing offers are fun and clearly put iOS in the background.
