Custom Charging Mode and the Science of Maintaining Battery Health

Hello fellow Nothing Phone users!

I’ve been using Nothing OS 3’s Custom Charging mode frequently, and about a long time now.

There have been claims and articles all over the web that says than it is ideal for Lithium-based Batteries to maintain it between 20% to 80%, and charge to a maximum of 40% to 80%.

With all that being said, I still don’t consider myself a battery conscious. The purpose of this thread is to share my experience, and get in touch with the community about this matter.

I’ve been using Accubattery to observe the efficiency of my Nothing Phone (2) as a daily driver.

Details: Custom Charging to 80% giving a 2 to 3 hours of screen-on time per my usage

2kai this is great! You’re only charging at 70% and it’s giving you great results. Is your mobile data/wifi always on?

I tried charging it to 70% and used it all the way through 13%. Here’s what I got! Please bear in mind that this is not a complain but an observation. Your battery life depends on your usage.

The image is a result of Mobile Data + GPS + Split PoGO. My proc temp reached 51°c as the dry environment contributed a lot.

KinoRongavilla hey buddy can you tell me about your phone like when the temperature of the phone is high. Os your phone charge with fast speed or it will be slow. As i am using phone 2a and whenever its temperature above 38°C it charges slow like 1 percent in 1 minute. Please reply my comment.

Thanks for the post @KinoRongavilla , interesting topic. My question is: the “intelligent charging” charging mode means that the phone learns when and how I charge it. Is that the case? Does the charging behavior change over time? I read somewhere that if I charge it overnight while sleeping, the phone will only charge to a certain percentage, hold it there and then just before an alarm clock app comes on, the battery will be fully charged. Until it charges to full 100%, as the Accubattery history shows.

dev4223 I believe the idea of Smart Charging is to prevent your phone from charging all the way up to 100% immediately. You can leave your phone charging overnight by supplying minimum current starting at 80%, then there comes to the thing you mentioned in which the phone can resume charging before/after the alarm. I have only tried it once.

However, smartphones are just as “smart” as they are these days, once the phone reaches at full, current will no longer pass through.

AdityaMandloi yeah sure! I can put more detail about it. I was actually expecting it to happen. I usually play Pokémon GO on Split Screen, with Mobile Data and GPS turned on. By the time of my monitoring, it’s actually a very dry weather outside, so the processor and battery temperature gets hotter.
