Review of My Journey with Nothing Devices
August 28, 2022 Purchased Nothing Phone (1) – still using it as a secondary phone..
August 21, 2023 Upgraded to Nothing Phone (2) due to satisfaction with NP1 !
In 2024 i Planned to buy Nothing Phone (3) but the company postponed the launch in favor of releasing more budget models.
Instead, i bought Nothing Ear (a) in 2024.
Overall Emotion-Disappointed.
Reason is Shift from quality to quantity and marketing-focused strategies which leads to focus on new devices only not expanding the development team to Look on every sector…!
Now my Expectations vs Reality- i Came from Samsung and Pixel with good experiences…Chose this brand Nothing for its uniqueness nd brand vision - “Let’s make tech fun again.”Initially it was exciting, but key shortcomings surfaced over time.
Let bring the Disappointments & Key Issues maybe i’m wrong but just this ia an honest review from heart to heart….
1. Optimisation Issues- Nothing Phone 1 Still feels perfect and well-optimized where as
Nothing Phone 2 felt great till software version 2.5….after that Bi-monthly updates seemed FORMALITIES with no major changes.
Performance downgraded…Especially with 8+ Gen 1 chip being underutilized…Heavy CPU throttling and no proper fixes…! This may not feel to light users user again i’m saying every one have different experience accordingly to there uses..
Now Camera hav Capable hardware,.. but underwhelming image output due to poor tuning…
This formality updates which we are receiving from last 3-4 batches…this Result leads Many users (including me) shifted to custom ROMs to unlock potential…!
Now coming on Management & Strategic Choices
See everyone is saying This is new company but the argument doesn’t hold cz you all know leadership and experience already exist from back days , there teams were already in game…. !
Now they Switched to quantity over quality – introducing multiple “A, Plus, Pro,cmf23 and all models… Which i was never interested only reason i prefer A good equipped potential hardware…!
Now Marketing team is Doing a commendable job.
But Development team is Underperforming and possibly stretched too thin…!!!!
Suggested Solution is only - Split your team guys expand it - One for new product development, another for updates/optimisation of older devices…!See i understand Current setup appears to handle all devices together is kind of very hardwork and messy which also leading to quality compromises… trust me..!
Main point is - Updates to NP1 & NP2 feel like more formalities… That’s all !!!
Now Service Centres ..Can improve significantly.
If Good software optimisation reduces service needs ..got it?? another reason to invest in software team expansion..!!!!
My intention is constructive criticism….I believe in the brand’s potential and innovation….!
So Please don’t overlook-Small user pain points.
Stick to motto: “Let’s make tech fun again” … but ensure functionality, support, and optimisation are not sacrificed.. please 🙏🏼
I truly hope to add Nothing Phone (3) to my collection alongside NP1 & NP2 without regrets…!
