Hi, I am Rahil.
The core theme of my submission is Retro Futurism & Digital Warmth.
I got inspired by ideas, devices and structures of the past then I thought about how I could incorporate those real world examples to create engaging software experiences.
Its meant to be nostalgic, yet innovative, friendly and comforting at the same time.
How would Big Ben look as a clock face ? How would retro arcade games look as widgets on your home screen ? How can I incorporate elements of various abstract art movements in the creation of my wallpapers. These questions were the result of that creative process that ultimately led to the presentation I will share today.

How do all of my Ideas relate to the central them ?
What made me select this theme ?
I am a big fan of video games particularly the Metal Gear series… there is a beautiful line in the second solid game (MGS2) when solid snake says - “Building the future and keeping the past alive is one and the same thing”.
That is the core idea behind incorporating Retro futurism for me. It’s a bridge between different generations. Most people today aren’t interested in playing the real version of Pong - its freely available. But make a variation of that with gyro controls and put it on a user’s home screen as a widget and suddenly it generates interest and it is just plain “FUN”.
Digital warmth goes hand in hand with this mentality, we want to craft experiences that seem inviting to the user. Provide them with comfort and friendliness. This is done through simple visuals and ease of approachability.
I think you can apply all of that to all the concepts that I have presented here.
For example : The wallpapers are inspired by art movements of 1920s mixed in with a color palette that feels fresh and inviting; The clock faces are based on digital/analog clocks or Big ben or even the 2a’s camera module. What ties them together ? They are well known things of the past but telling that story through modern software with digital warmth incorporated makes them - timeless.
That is what made me fall in love with this theme and its also something that the brand follows closely.
