This is my submission for the Community Edition Project CMF Design.

Feel free to download it and have a scroll through. It took a lot of effort to make the document, it’s almost a magazine lol.

But here is a short gist:

The base of this concept lies in Nothing’s Founding Principles — making tech fun again. But when was tech actually fun? This project references one of those eras, “The era of early consumer electronics”. Specifically, the origin of tech for personal entertainment through the shift from analog to digital.

This project is all about unlocking a new aspect of Nothing DNA by making reference to that era more direct. Fusing our current design language with the spirit and aesthetic of the products from the era where our founding principles are inspired from.

The design features bold, vibrant, glossy CMF just like the tech from those times did. Referencing CDs and their sharp flares, and also making the frame and few other parts translucent.

Uday Great presentation and a well thought out submission.

I just wish you had gone with this version instead… it really has that retro future vibe.

I like this one a lot and I think with a little more refinement and experimentation this would have been perfect!

Uday Very nice! reminds me of some classic walkmans! 📼 I’d love if you could check out our accessory concept, it would be nice to have feedback from such a great designer!

Yeah, me too. I really liked that version but there’s a constraint in the brief that states we have to go with one of the three standard colors white/black/blue for the body. And the white wasn’t completing the classy look. So I had to go with the current one. The current one leverages the base white color to tell the same story in a different way, which I really like.

It’s still open for interpretation by the team though, if they have a better workaround to this, hence the heavy mention to the bands version in the presentation.

flo_rahil Same here, that version caught my attention at the very moment I looked at it. It goes very well with the Phone (3a) and in my opinion the base colors are also fairly Nothing-like. Great design for sure.
