Carl yeah, i don’t like it either. first, it feels like a typical Chinese software experience, and second, i agree with you. i never thought about having it on my phone because i don’t need it.

Carl One good feature from Oxygen OS sjdebar is the ‘file dock’; it acts like a temporary clipboard for images and other files while copying from one app to another. While texts & images can now be stored within the keyboard clipboard itself, saving it in the dock gives it a chance to be more private, I guess? (Since the keyboard is either by Google or third party)

I personally understand both sides of the debate, since i do find usefulness on opening and closing apps quickly without needing to transition from one screen to another (MIUI implements floating apps and things like quick notes beautifully, in my opinion) .

Now, bias aside, I think the healthiest way to solve the dilemma between users who need the sidebar and users who don’t want it because “bloat”, is to simply expose the OS activity for launching apps directly on floating mode. That way, if users really want to add the feature, they could just do it through third-party sidebar apps that can shortcut said activities.

No idea if there’s hard-coded restrictions for those, or if it posits a privacy issue, but, a priori, seems pretty doable.

Instead of a sidebar . How about a side universal clipboard to store everything that I have copied and can be brought automatically when needed through swipe or through some new gestures

I know . But for that we need to access it through keyboard. But I am talking about an universal clipboard similar to File dock from OnePlus feature.

The idea is to copy anything image, video, zip files, html etc and store it and access them in any application through a swipe from side.

This can make the user experience more amazing

This is on another phone (OnePlus), there is no answer yet as to whether it will appear in future updates.

Coming from Samsung I miss this function dearly, I used it all the time. Browsing the web, or watching YouTube and someone sends me a message on WhatsApp or any other app? Just pull the sidebar, hold and drag the app icon and have it in pop-up mode, quick, easy, efficient, no need to switch apps.

But not only for messaging, also for example browsing and need the calculator? Again, pull it from the sidebar as a pop-up window do the maths and continue what I was doing.

Same goes for being able to open apps in pop-up mode from notifications, on OneUI I could hold and drag from the notification to open that app in pop-up mode. Not possible on Nothing, only get the notification options for that app which I will probably never change that way.

These functions missing are making me re-think my choice as I only have the Nothing Phone 3a Pro a couple days now, but damn, this feels like such a huge downgrade to user experience. Would love to have it - and for all of you saying it’s not needed or that you don’t use it - there can always exist the option to disable the feature!!

Yes, you’re right, the function, as I wrote before, is a priority for me. Since there is no desire to implement this function, maybe some developer from the forum can try to implement this project for nothing. Even if it were a paid function, I think many people with nothing would be ready to have it.
