What If Nothing Made a Notes App? (+ Concept)

Hey! Lately, I’ve been wanting a notes app on my Nothing CMF phone that isn’t from Google Keep Notes (or anything that tries to be too much like Notion), but something from Nothing, one with the Nothing design flair and features that make it completely different from everything else.

I’ve already got a concept done. I’ve started working on the design and building out ideas for when I eventually start coding. I’ve only made an Android app once before, and it was as barebones as it gets. Honestly, I doubt I’ll manage to fully develop this one either but I’m good at designing in Figma.
here is my early concept:

I’ve done some redesigns on the notes themselves to make them more consistent, and I added an animation for anyone to try. (Note: the image might take a moment to load.) When you tap, the note resizes. This supports the app’s customizability, it’s built on a grid system similar to the Nothing quick settings customization. Thanks for checking it out!

There are currently at least two Nothing style notes apps currently on play store: Noting Notes by Hearthborn Studios @Ali Fakhruddin and Notes: Notepad by monospace. I see your point is good, but it feels a bit too cluttered as the notes are way too close to each other.

Wow, I didn’t actually know there were Nothing-styled notes apps that you could download and use. And yes, you’re right, they are cluttered. I’m working on a second design that improves on it. The idea is that it would have the same customizability as the quick settings tab on Nothing OS 3.0 (where you can change the size of each icon, and it sometimes has a different design when it’s 2×2). It’s still an early concept, and I’m still working on it. But thank you very, very much for the information you’ve given me! 😁

Thanks for the feedback! I only added slightly soft colors to some of the notes in the concept image to show that users can customize them however they want. I avoided using highly saturated colors because I was worried it might ruin the overall look of the concept image.

Thanks for the comment. Essential Space is a really interesting app, but it’s more of an AI-powered notes app than a user-driven one where you write things yourself and use formatting like bold or italic. In my concept image, you can see that I included the icon (bottom middle one), and yeah… I know it doesn’t look exactly like the Essential Space icon. I accidentally inverted it.

VOrsina Not yet… I’m still working on the home page design and haven’t started the other pages. Once that’s done, I’ll move on to widgets and other practical features for a notes app. 👍

Yes, it would be really interesting to have a system app for notes, and it should especially be integrated with the Essential Space, which is still quite underdeveloped both functionally and practically. Sometimes it drives me crazy not being able to edit the AI-generated text, and even though you can create collections, it’s not always easy to find older posts. By the way, did you have any ideas for possible widgets, @Scazzor?

waguri Yeah, I could… but it’s just not enough or practical right now, in my opinion. A widget should have a clear function, like showing a to-do list from a note (e.g.: Upcoming), or letting you start writing without opening the app, or even a shortcut that looks good. I don’t have many ideas for a notes widget yet, but I’ll stick with the redesign style for UI consistency. Thanks for the input!
