ParlCei me 2. The 2a is really the stupidiest option since you can’t even run Kali Nethunter or even a custom, degoogled FW.

The reason is that Nothing choose a Mediathek Dimension which is usually used as cost saving Alternative to QC’s Snapdragon in thing like Spying-on-you tellies.

They never tried that again and reverted back to to the Snapdragon which means they admitted it.

B-but you can still build your own or at least port Nethunter!

I’m trying to port Nethunter as we speak but I dunno if I’ll ever finish it. As 4 building your own CFW… Yeah I can do a lot of things.

If ppl would pay me so I can make comfortable living than maybe. And when I get a Maintainer who handles the Updates 4 all variants! And even then… My Knowledge is limited.

All things considered, I’ll go w/ a Pixel again, especially when I have the opportunity for a Fold.

I loved the Idea but most other, earlier design where srsly flawed. Not so Big Gs Product!

I came here bc I wanna know if the the battery supports Qi charging as the User’s Guide claims:

Phone (2a) is capable of charging other Qi-compatible wireless charging devices

cherrychon Choosing a MediaTek chip on the 2a really limited what could’ve been possible with custom ROMs and tools like Nethunter. Looks like Nothing realized that too and moved back to Snapdragon with newer models. And yeah, that Qi charging bit in the manual seems like a mistake. 2a doesn’t have wireless charging, so it’s probably just leftover text from the Phone (2) docs.

With Google accelerating its timeline for major Android releases, it’s likely that Android 16 will be launched earlier than anticipated this year. Consequently, it’s reasonable to assume that Android 17 will also be released before the end of the promised update period, which lasts until July 2026. Ultimately, the timing of these updates will depend on Google’s release schedule and Nothing’s commitment to its update policy for the Phone (2).

Spike Appreciate the detailed breakdown but I will quote some information from “Android Headlines” that, the Nothing Phone (2) receiving the Android 17 update appears to be a misinterpretation. Based on Nothing’s official software update policy, the Phone (2), which launched with Android 13 in July 2023, is slated to receive three major Android updates. This means it will be updated through to Android 16, with security updates continuing until July 2027.

While it’s true that Google has been accelerating its Android release timeline, this doesn’t necessarily extend the update commitment for existing devices beyond what was initially promised. Therefore, unless Nothing revises its policy, the Phone (2) is expected to receive updates up to Android 16.

As for Phone (1), it’s even more important not only was it the brand’s first launch device, but many of us took a chance on a new company. IT PAID OFF MOSTLY!!! Ending OS updates now would feel like cutting off support for the very people who helped build the Nothing community. Giving Phone (1) 2 more or at least one more OS update wouldn’t just be about specs but also show respect to the loyal consumers and extending updates for both phones would really show appreciation to loyal early adopters US…

Nothing did not promise 3 Android updates, Android Headlines is wrong with that part. They did promise 3 “years” (not 3 versions) of Android updates. You can check that in Phone 2 spec sheet on Nothing’s website. It ends in July 2026.

Google speeding up Android updates means Android 17 might get released before the 3 year timeline ends, resulting in hitting the Nothing’s update promise.

You should not use 3rd party news sources such as Android Headlines as the primary source instead of company themselves.

burakdede and @Spike Thanks for the clarification, both of you. That makes sense regarding the official commitment. But as a Nothing Phone (1) user, I can’t help but feel a bit left behind. With Android 15 being the last major update for us, it’s hard not to wonder but what happens next? Both Phone (1) and Phone (2) are flagship devices that helped shape Nothing’s identity, and many of us early adopters truly believed in the vision. What both of you said, that may happen for phone (2) but what will happen to phone (1)?

Since they are the flagship brand so they need upgrade as well!!

OviGarry Phone 1’s promised update schedule comes to an end so there’s not anything we can do for it.

I don’t want Nothing to expand their update schedule, I just want them to keep their promise of 3 years of OS updates. Users bought the device knowing how many years it will be supported so it’s not fair to ask more.

Hope they don’t drop the support with Android 16 thinking 3 years of updates means 3 major updates.

burakdede I get your point, but I have to honestly disagree. Yes, we knew the original promise before buying, but that doesn’t mean we can’t advocate for better support, especially when many loyal users are asking for it. This thread was made for ONLY THAT REASON: to encourage Nothing Team to consider extending OS updates for Phone (1) and (2), not just settle for the minimum. If the chip set truly can’t handle future Android versions, that’s understandable but if it can, and there’s demand from the community, why not push for it?

If you’re satisfied with the current policy, that’s fair—but many of us believe the community deserves more, and that’s why this conversation matters.

OviGarry emotions or loyalty has nothing to do with update policies. They can’t just expand based on emotions or loyalty.

If you’re not satisfied with the update quality best you can do is considering other companies for your next phone, voting with your wallet.

Once again, I am not asking them to expand, they don’t need to expand, they just need to keep their promise for 3 years + 1 more of security updates. It’s enough for Phone 2 users imo.

burakdede Saying “emotions or loyalty have nothing to do with update policies” sounds nice on paper!! Brands expand support because of pressure, loyalty, and competition. If updates were purely about specs or contracts, we wouldn’t have seen Google, Samsung, even OnePlus expand their update timelines after devices were already out!!

So yeah, emotions do matter, loyalty does matter and companies that actually understand that are the ones raising the standard. If Nothing wants to stay competitive and keep its community happy, expanding OS updates even for Phone 1, then that makes sense also it shouldn’t hurt!

You may be fine with minimum promises, ME!! not so much and I’m not alone either, this thread and many others proved that. So NO, it’s not about asking for too much, it’s about keeping up with the industry and respecting early adopters who helped put Nothing on the map. It’s just a simple request to the officials to take any action on this. You should read the whole thread and see what’s this about!
