just submitted my idea for the next Nothing Community Edition phone!
Introducing: SONGBIRD
Songbird turns the back of the Nothing Phone (3a) into a touch-responsive musical instrument — like a pocket synth built right into your phone. Inspired by bird calls, childhood memories, and my love for music production, it’s a playful, behind-the-screen experience where you can assign sounds to touch tiles and literally make music with your phone… without even unlocking it.
Imagine:
Tapping the back to trigger beats, chirps, loops
Sliding to change pitch, Keys or effects
It is a fun way to interact with keeping in the nothing DNA, Serious tech with a playful soul. this is an extension of the idea of Glyph composer and able to be more than just a phone in the most minimalist way
The back tiles of the Songbird Edition can be made responsive using:
Piezoelectric materials, which generate a voltage when pressure or vibration is applied — ideal for capturing subtle taps or finger drumming.
Alternatively, capacitive or resistive touch technologies can be embedded under the rear casing to detect finger contact and gestures with precision.
It’s a tribute to the weird joy of mimicking birds as a kid, and a nod to Nothing’s beautiful fusion of tech, sound, and play.
If this idea speaks to you, or makes you smile like it does me, I’d love your support.🐦
