Today I’m sharing my experience & favourite features of the NothingOS 3.1 on Nothing Phone (3a). It’s my first time using an nothing Smartphone, thanks to the Nothing Community Review Program for opportunity.
Let’s Explore NothingOS —
At first impression it look as the Stock Android, but when we started exploring it’s something more than that and more improved & some features are very fun and unique.
The nothing dotted font everywhere gives unique & brand specific look, which is good in real.
The animations are everywhere in every single touch & smoothness in animations is so good 🫡
I like the way it off screen when we double tap on Homescreen, apps folder animations, app opening & closing animation are buttery smooth.
Didn’t faced any lags in NothingOS 🙂
App folder customisation is here, you can change it in different shapes and can add a emoji cover (like I added social media folder with a Cat emoji). The nothing dot font adds extra uniqueness in UI which feels good.
📌 You cannot extend folder like ColorOS/MagicOS/OriginOS here
You can customise the control panel & quick toggles, we can change the size & extend it (shown in attached video) which pretty helpful & easy to use.
NothingOS control looks minimal & clean in both Horizontal or Vertical orientation and the media player is also good here.
Lockscreen customisation is available but in a very unique way. We can change the clock styles and add the same widgets on Lockscreen which are available in Homescreen.
The best part is - whatever widgets we add on Lockscreen, it’s also available in AOD 😍
Power Off Verify feature is very helpful, if your phone is locked - no one can switch off the device without password 🔑
Some other important privacy features also available in NothingOS & work perfectly 🙂
Glyph Lights are useful (it’s not just for show off). We can customise the glyph Lights effects on Incoming call ringtone & notifications.
Works as Volume Indicator, Lights up when we flip phone, glyph timer, delivery progress bar (Zomato, Uber) & Music Visualisation.
Addition of Touch & Hold then swipe up to clear all background running applications is good. Instead of clearing one by one or scroll to left till end, it’s a better option & animations here are also smooth & fast responsive.
I’m impressed with NothingOS in my usage 🙂
Nothing First Party Apps designed to look unique & identifying brands theme is good.
Specially the Weather App, Gallery & Nothing X applications on NothingOS looks so Amazing 😍
I can’t explore the nothing X app, because I don’t have any Nothing Audio device 🙁
Camera App UI is clean & very responsive. The best thing I like in Camera app is the Presets feature, we can add, create any Presets and share with anyone.
Nothing announced that, old nothing devices will also get presets via OTA update very soon.
All the basic features of Android 15 is available in #NothingOS, there is no compromise in it.
📌 In my usage, I don’t feel any issues, bugs or lags.
There are some experimental, special features available on NothingOS 3.1.
Theme Colour (Android’s Material You), icons customisation also available. Thankfully We can use third party icon packs which is missing in most of UIs.
📌 NothingOS is very impressive & great UI with clean & feature rich experience. I like the nothingOS, feels something new after a long time.
📌 The RAM management needs to improve, if any app running in recent task (background) and if we open it restarts the app 🙁
App cloning is not limited to specific apps, we can adjust the colour contrast of display (very useful).
