Introducing my Community Edition Entry

Emotion-Inspired, Sentimental Functionality, Discoverable Details.
Having just graduated university for Design, I have always wanted to design a product. Adoring Nothing’s ethos of “beauty in subtle intricacy” & “calm, humane essentials with a hint of playfulness”, I was very excited to take the opportunity in this competition!
Here is my submission, meticulously designed with passion and emotion, in four gorgeous colours.
Read on for more, and dive into the details by viewing my images!

After purchasing a 2a for myself, I noticed how it encourages you to place the phone face down, and how this presented itself as an “escape, focus mode”.
I loved this functionality, so I was eager to push it further with the “Glyph Icon”, A graphical display that maintains the ethos of non-distracting, essential but fun additions.
This E-Ink technology is capable of consuming 0 power, is a readily available part, and does not light up or glow, allowing you to add what’s close and important to you as an intimate addition to your phone’s design.
I understand that hardware modifications may not be made due to mould development costs, but I wish to put this idea out there.

I love diving deep into the details. Often I spend time peering into nothing products to discover small details, and when I find a new detail, I always experience wonder, as someone thought to insert that detail into the design.
Playing with that philosophy, I wanted to add “Discoverability” into the design. In addition, I also wanted to add “Meaning” into the design too. Various features have been added to the visual of the phone, not just for aesthetics, but with meaning too.
I also thought it would be a shame to loose all the creative ideas to the winner. So, my design includes a mention of the community effort in the COMMUNITY CRYSTAL!

When designing, it is important to cater to the audience.
As this phone will be sold to the mass market, the design must not be too personal to myself (or the design won’t be loved by others). The design must rather present itself as relatable to everyone, so that more people may enjoy it.
Here is a peek into my process. This is color exploration… but I did not start with the colors themselves. Instead, my goal was to evoke memories of calm and happy. With that inspirational goal in mind, I set to reduce different aspects of nature and social moments into simple gradients. I hope that some of these colors may bring back some of your fond memories!
Choosing which to pick for my design was hard. To do this, I thought about what different personalities would like. I present: Tangy Coral, for soft, social and maybe even feminine personalities. Can you taste the lemon lime bitters?
Airy Aqua, for those who love a limitless sky, remaining bright and calm.
Mysterious Maroon, for the individuals with strength and fire in their heart.
Deep Ocean, for sophisticated individuals with great depth, wisdom.
Thanks for Reading!
If you enjoyed my concept, please vote for it when voting begins! Design is my dream, and having a chance to turn that into a reality would be undoubtedly awesome.
