The Nothing Phone (3) design (theory)

Let me share my midnight overthinking session with you.

I have been thinking about how the upcoming Phone (3) could look like and I’m really curious. On the Phone (3a) Pro, there is the huge camera bump for the new periscope lens. The Phone (3) will most likely have the lens too, so it also needs the camera bump.

Wireless charging. If there is going to be a bump with the thickness of the Phone (3a) Pro’s bump, the wireless charging is going to be really impractical.

Unless they are somehow going to make the bump 3x thinner than on the Phone (3a) Pro, I’m really curious on how will they make this work. It’s a flagship after all, so I think there’s a really small chance that one of the mentioned featuress will be missing.

I don’t think the NP3 will have the same camera lens. I think the periscope lens was an experiment and that, for now at least, it’lll remain exclusive to the 3a Pro.
The ‘bump’ can likely be made smaller, but obviously this would increase production costs. Given the price point of the NP3, if they DID go with the periscope lens then it’s conceivable they’d opt to slim down the profile as much as possible to fit the aesthetic of the main line phones.
Aesthetic is another reason I’d refer back to point 1. A large camera island of any kind just wouldn’t fit the design ethos of the main line.
Wireless charging is a ‘nice to have’, but in no way a necessity, and I think smartphone brands are starting to realise this. There is a limit to how much power can be pushed through at decent speeds wirelessly, and people seem to care more about how much charge they can get in as little time as possible so end up using a suitable PD plug anyway.
