I didn’t get the chance to express my gratitude to all the Nothing team and i truly am, this project has been amazing, submissions outstanding and talented winners.

We are not debating capabilities of all the designers or trying to be us the ones who win instead. We are all human beings and we know people can have mistakes.

The threaten of disqualification is what we were concerned, it would be different if it wasn’t clear but it was there written “In case of making any change not included in the brief will result in disqualification”.

This time everything has been settled, and I personally wish the best to the winners because their concept is genius and it will be a phone to buy definetly. But for further competitions please make everything clear from the beggining

Can’t deny that the Community Edition Project is such an invaluable platform for talent to shine, I will be forever grateful to Nothing for this pure gem of an initiative, really.

Next time in the announcement though, please hint at preferring to picking industry professionals and also about preferring people based in Europe for obvious unadmitted reasons (costs, availability in person, etc.)

This way, us self-taught underdogs can manage our expectations—to not to overcommit our time, energy, and more importantly, so much passion—especially when many of us put forward genuinely better, feasible, and true-to-brief concepts, yet end up with nothing to show for it.

I know there might be some bias in me for being a proud and enthusiastic participant, but I do definitely feel sorry for others who produced work that deserves better recognition.

I know this kind of feedback creates tension—no one wants that, I wanted to stay silent. But it’s even worse to stay silent in the face of something that feels so unjust, just to keep the peace. Please be transparent next time about all the factors that influence judgment, so everyone’s expectations are fair from the start.

I love Nothing for the great work and values, but it’s just that participating in the Community Edition Project won’t be the same for me next time. I loved it when I put all passion for it, I certainly will love it lesser when won’t put it fully, because I will have known the reality better the next time.

I really like the design chosen. Has a welcomed 90s charm. Congrats to everyone I really loved the dices going through the submissions back than.

I’m also a little irritated that this design was chosen, as I don’t remember any relaxation of the guidelines. Many of the designs show that a lot of time and effort went into it and it was also quite a challenge to stay within the guidelines - to coordinate everything within the boundaries. I understand that different aspects go into the selection, but that staying within the given boundaries doesn’t seem to be valued. This certainly leads to irritation and even frustration for some. It would be nice to hear from you here, otherwise it will lead to less or more limited participation in the future.

Congratulations to all the winners!

It was very exciting working on this project. I myself participated in hardware design and for the benefit of all the participants, we would appreciate some clarification regarding the brief. It was not specified that the glass screen could be modified and was later clarified it could not be changed. The winning entry is a great concept no doubt but it did not adhered to the brief. We would like to get some clarity on how it was selected as the best out of all those who adhered to the brief.

If such discrepancies persist, it may discourage participants from taking part in future events. I hope this feedback helps ensure a fair and motivating experience for everyone involved.

I actually also doubt the voting mechanism.

With so many submissions, in each category, voters can only vote for one work within 24 hours. How can the company ensure that the participants have seen enough submissions and more even opportunities for all the works for the low risk of voting wrong?

And, if the jury chose the works just from the voting results, the risk of making the wrong choice was raised again. (I guess the jury doesn’t have the time to view all the works, cause I have seen many works more interesting than the chosen. If possible, could you share with us for what reasons the winners were selected out of the many? THX)

Congrats to the winners ! Btw no disrespect to the chosen one’s . They are one of us , But my only query is we were clearly instructed to design colorations to the dark grey parts and the light grey are sticked to black ,blue and white .

The selected design didn’t compromise the instructed criteria . This is quite disappointing on seeing relaxations of the rules , and feels disappointed to those designers who stayed hard on the rules and thinked out of the box to ideate with in the limitations.

Actually while I am scrolling down the gallery wall on the voting day some designs like the winning one’s was quite good conceptually ,but i thought these designs have crossed the coloration restrictions so I crossed without voting because someone capable could have designed more creative without the restrictions in the light grey parts but instead they are tend to ideate within the rules criteria in aware of disqualification.

I didn’t expect this from jury or nothing team . If rules can be compromised then what is the duty of the rules in this project ? Then everyone should have instructed to design freely to any parts right ?

Please add up this pt next time if possible , Following up the rules is partial and not mandatory. Atleast I request @Natalie ✨ to spare some time to validate those who put thier work time and passion towards thier design ,get a word of appreciation that would be motivating them to go further ! Atleast some ppl above talked about this finally .

SilverYu Well, now I have something to say about the software winner: it’s an answer needed but hard to improve to the problem the designer pointed out.

Despite the font design being good, and may even aligned with the phone 3 design: I noticed the former circles that make up the Pokémon pattern have been changed into squares, that might be one of the reasons they chose this one.

However, the priority of each number depends on the situation, how can you presume that the hour numbers are always the most important?

The user’s real-time preference is hard to capture. As a user-centred design, emphasising the unmatching ones might be unpleasant.

SilverYu Just like how people are mentioning that the hardware design winner didn’t follow the brief. The same can be said about the software winner too.

The brief mentioned, in bold, that the submission should start with wallpapers and that should inform the clock face and the fingerprint animation.

Which one do you think feels like a proper holistic software pitch ?

Like the comments above are saying- we are ok with not winning the project, but at least the rules established in the brief must be maintained. What was the point of me working on the wallpapers if they were not important?

To reiterate we are all grateful for this platform, but we all wish to be seen and heard on an equal plane.

I submitted a couple of design ideas too but was immediately made aware from seeing the other submissions that there are much better ideas and concepts. Although I was a little disheartened accepting that my design perhaps wasn’t the best, I was more so captivated by the incredible line-up of submissions.

That being said, I do not believe the winning designs were on par with some of the submissions made by others, and it seems to me that Nothing’s “transparency” is all superficial, whether it be their phone backs or their community engagement.

SilverYu “Show us how you would bring a unique look to the lock AND home screen” - sounds like a requirement to me. It also goes hand in hand with provided template.

Besides are we not encouraged to follow these recommendations ?

flo_rahil This means more freedom for creativity, it’s not that necessary for participants to follow. Like the “widget ideas” is mentioned but not emphasised, which is also an option. But yes, the guide is not that clear.

It’s genuinely disappointing to see how things unfolded. So many of us put our heart and soul into entries, staying true to the brief and pushing ourselves creatively. What’s happened is demotivating for a lot of us, and I really hope the team can offer clarity. A transparent explanation would go a long way in helping us understand the decision making process and keep faith in this wonderful platform. We all deserved at least that.

I’d also really appreciate some clarity on the runners-up , if there were any, they should be publicly acknowledged alongside the winners. These creators also put in great effort and deserve recognition for their work. Transparency on that front would make the outcome feel far more fair and respectful to everyone who participated.

And I do agree with @Uday @arlexnaorem and others that participating in the Community Edition Project won’t feel the same next time.
