How does Private Space work?

Hello everyone. How does the new private space function included on the latest nothing OS updates (May) work? Currently when opening the app drawer when scrolling from left to right you can hide apps, simply hide the icon from the drawer.

This new private space could work differently: a secondary hidden space is created in the phone. This also allows for a different Google account between the phone and the private space.

However, this could create a big problem that I have already found on other brands and (e.g. Realme): if a hidden app needs to communicate with an unhidden one, these do not work. For example I use macro droid for automations, this app interests me and so I keep it visible. Some automations however require additional modules e.g. to interact with Wi-Fi, these modules work by installing additional apps it doesn’t make sense to keep them visible so I hide them. The way the hidden apps work today, I have no problem with them, but I am afraid that this new feature will break this. Can anyone tell me how the new private space works?

Private Space allows you add apps, files, photos and more into a space on your device which restricts notifications and more when it is not open.

I tested this for you on my CMF Phone 2 Pro.

So:

I put ‘Apple Music’ in my Private Space

I open Macro droid

Add Action

Open Application

It loads my available apps

The apps in my private space on not visible in that list

Thank you for the confirmation. The May update will be the first update I won’t do, unfortunately this new private space feature doesn’t make sense, it no longer allows me to hide unnecessary apps but only allows me to create a secondary profile in the phone (like you can do for the work profile). So if I have apps for example adblockers that integrate with the browser or something else I will have to leave them visible otherwise they won’t work.

I hope that with the next updates they will put the option between private space and the old way of hiding apps

Benutzer very well said. Private space is nothing but a glorified profile feature 😂 Hide apps is completely different, super useful which is now destroyed and left in the void of nothing 😉
