I’m a complete beginner when it comes to design—I have no skills or ideas to boast about—but I really wanted to try creating something just once.
I’d love to hear your thoughts and feedback.
I’m Japanese and have lived in Japan my whole life. I wanted to create a design for the Phone (3a) inspired by my favorite flower: the cherry blossom. To be honest, the design isn’t minimal or anything like that, but I felt that just using color wasn’t enough to express cherry blossoms—I wanted to capture their beautiful shape as well, so I incorporated that into the design.
As I thought about colors that go well with cherry blossoms and ones that are closely associated with them, the idea of “sanshoku dango” (three-colored sweet dumplings) came to mind, and I decided to include that in the design too.
The deep blue frame of the phone represents the surface of water.
Through this idea, I wanted to express that there’s not only a world of vivid, vibrant colors—but also a delicate world painted in soft, pale hues.
That’s all. I’m a complete beginner when it comes to design and I don’t have any technical skills, but I still wanted to take on the challenge—this was an idea created by a first-year university student in Japan
