Hey everybody! A ton of great submissions on the community challenge so far! Great work all around!
Just wanted to hop on and share mine as well!
A little bit of context before I start:
I’m an Industrial designer from Assam, India. This project was developed in 5 days. Due to a super busy schedule, I couldn’t do as much as I wanted but despite that, I did try my absolute best to get my narrative across.
A dream of robot insects
It was quite a while ago that I was watching “Clarkson’s farm”. Now, as funny as that entire experience was, one thing has stuck with me for quite a while: Jeremy Clarkson mentioning the reduction in insect population in the show. You can find that clip here: Jeremy Clarkson on insect decline
When I was mulling over what my submission would be, I couldn’t help but draw parallels to the insects in nothing’s commercials and the decline in the population of insects worldwide. This strengthened my resolve to find a way to talk about this issue.
Beautiful Reuters report “The collapse of insects”
Veritasium video on MIT’s robot insects
Harvard’s report on robobees

Safe to say, the numbers are quite grim.
To showcase this, I wanted to do a project revolving around robot insects. As nothing uses real insects, the contrast of having this community edition inspired and aided by robot insects would be a great tool to educate and spark interest among people for this topic.
You can see some research and ideation work I did on the slides below:

Although the robot insects in my reference come with bright yellow and black, through some experimentation, I realized the phone wouldn’t look great with that colour palette. So I toned it down a tad bit and made it copper-ish. This, thankfully had the effect of making the phone look like it had exposed coils and electrical elements, much like the robots.

I hope this post helped shed some light on my process and the narrative I chose. I’d love to know your thoughts! Cheers!
