Hope you’re all well! I just wanted to jump in and share my Nothing Phone 3(a) Community Edition entry with you all since my entry just went live. I am hoping to get some feedback for things that I might have missed or how you view a product proposal with these colors and materials.

For some context, I call my entry “Do Mushrooms dream of Artificial Intelligence?” which is a reference to Philip K Dick’s novel(later adapted into the movies you might know as “Blade Runner”). I tried focusing on the time period that this phone is releasing in and the technological and societal climate around this time period, which is 2025-2026. We are surrounded by rapid and uncertain technological changes such as AI, autonomous robots, image generation which by themselves are huge advancements but leave us as humans and people of process, lifestyle and patience in confusion. Will we have our jobs? Will this technology affect me? How do I live like I used to?
My proposal to this was looking to something that is ever-present, slow and reassuring- nature and natural phenomena. More specifically, I looked towards Mycelium, which is organic, living and talks to the theme of a growing network and community. It is also highly “manufacturable”, in the sense that it is grown and is used for a variety of uses. It made sense to me to have as a medium for the community edition.
For the colorways, my story was to visually depict that bright reassuring spot of nature surrounded by the sophisticated, toned down or pastel hues of technology, punchy yet falling in line with the base white color.
